FAQs

What do I get when I upgrade?

The Free version allows you to only save up to 8 camera positions. You can continue to mark as many camera positions as you wish, but these cannot be saved unless you upgrade or delete some saved cameras (either using the menu option, or the method below for individual cameras).

If you delete any saved cameras, you can then save further marked cameras until you hit this 8 camera limit again. Cameras are saved in the order in which you mark them.

Upgrading also removes all ads from the app.

What is the number displayed in the top left corner?

The number in the top left displays the average speed between the last two marked points. It is reset when a point is marked, or when a previously saved mark is passed.

It’s not initially displayed until you have passed an ‘endpoint’ & is refreshed each time average speed is reset. Thus it shows you the average speed over the previous sector.

Why doesn’t speed reset at the precise moment that I pass a marked camera?

A bespoke GPS device (e.g. Garmin) polls your position more frequently than a smartphone, which will generally poll at a regular time interval.

This means that when you mark the camera position you may possibly be marking the position recorded up to one second beforehand. Similarly when the app detects you have passed the camera, you may be up to one second further away.

Also, particularly when using it inside a vehicle, the GPS signal may be weak and so may not pick up a GPS signal as often as every second.

How do I delete a single camera?

If you want to delete a single camera,  then when you next pass that camera position, a REMOVE CAMERA option will appear on the speed reset message. This will remove that camera position from the saved cameras list.

In the Free App, only 8 camera positions can be saved. There is a menu option which will delete all saved cameras.

I marked/saved a camera position wrongly. Can I replace it?

If you mark a camera position slightly out of place, tap the screen again to mark the correct position.

When cameras are saved, if two marks are within 100 metres of each other, only the latest mark will be saved.

If you wish to replace a previously saved camera, just mark the new position and then save that. A camera saved within 100 metres of an existing saved camera will replace that camera (and the screen message will read camera updated rather than camera saved)

What is “Sleep” for?

In order to save battery power, if you haven’t passed any cameras or reset the speed for a user defined time  (in Settings), the app will go into sleep mode and switch off GPS. To restart, just tap anywhere on the screen

What are the warning sounds for?

When warning sounds are switched on, a tone will sound depending on whether you are going over the maximum speed, close to the maximum speed or are well under the maximum speed. A triple-tone can also sound when you pass a speed camera (or reset the speed manually). The tone sound is synchronised with a GPS signal being received by your device.

The advantage of the warning sounds is that you can use the app without having to look at it to check your speed.

In fact, if you manually switch your screen off (in normal usage, the screen will remain on) the warning sounds will still be heard. This is an additional battery saving feature.

Why doesn’t this work properly on my device?

There are over 7000 different android devices available. We have done our very best to test on as many different implementations of Android as we can, and have done our utmost to make sure it is stable and runs as we want it to on all devices. Unfortunately it would take years to test every release on every device, every flavour of Android and all the different combinations of apps that some users may have.

However, rather than uninstall the app, please contact us at projexe@gmail.com and let us know what isn’t working on your device and we will break our backs to try and fix it as soon as we can.

Why doesn’t  the app work with Android Auto?

At the moment, Google only allow app developers to integrate audio apps or messaging apps  with Android Auto. We are currently working on persuading them to open Android Auto to other categories of app.

The app can, however, be used in a split screen with mapping and other apps (requires Android 7 ‘Nougat’ or later).

Now, when I manually turn the screen off, the warning sounds stop. I am using Android 8 (Oreo)

Our friends at Google added a new “feature” to Android Oreo, which stops the GPS services to an App when it is not in the foreground (i.e. it isn’t being displayed on screen).

This is a new Android battery saving feature . It has broken a number of apps that need to know location even when running in the background. We are currently working on a fix for this.

The app will continue to work correctly if you use it in a split screen.

What sort of accuracy can be expected?

The GPS on your mobile device isn’t as accurate and doesn’t poll as frequently as a dedicated GPS (Garmin etc.). With a good GPS signal a mobile device should be accurate to about 3 metres.

Average Speed Max app is set to poll every second.

Therefore at an real average speed of 50 km/h the distance error is 19 metres (in 1 second at 50 km/h you will travel 13 metres. + 3 metres accuracy error).

If average speed cameras are 1 km apart, then taking this worst case scenario error into account you might actually only have travelled 981 metres, which would be calculated by the app as being an average speed of 49.07 kph. Therefore the error percentage in this case is 1.9%.
